Book List for 2012 #2: Looking for Alaska
THIS BOOK.
These two big words can not convey how good and deep this book is. Plus the humor, it’s unbelievable! Never did a single page fail to make me laugh. No, it’s not comedy at all. The book is being funny in a serious way.
It talks about life as it is, college life specifically, last words, life’s sufferings, and death. Honestly, I had to muster all my courage to continue reading after I hinted it will all boil down to…death. Death for me is a very sensitive topic. I’m honestly afraid of death and in no way do I want to talk about it. How much more read about it when everything this book says will make you internalize it even more? But then again, that’s the thing about good books, you can not just put it down.
Aside from the well-written lines, the characters are all relatable too. You could easily say, “I’m so like this girl” or “This one’s exactly just like my friend.” It’s like you could put your shoes in one of the characters and feel the story itself. Its sadness, joys, and truths.
Speaking of characters, Chip a.k.a “The Colonel” would be my favorite. Not only is he such a prankster, a smoker and an alcoholic, he’s also 1) a good and a frank friend 2) a genius for not settling with a GPA of 3.98 highest would be 4 3) a man whose humor is unbelievable 4) and when asked when was his best day, he replied by saying it didn’t happen yet and added that maybe, his happiest day would be the day when he’d finally be able to buy his mom a house. Awww. He’s like a bad boy with a good attitude. If there is such thing. Also, he reminds me of someone. Hee.
Really, THIS BOOK.
